Out of the following positions :Project Manager,User Experience (UX), Web Designer ,Front-end Developer,Quality Assurance, Content Manager/Editor; I choose to look more into QA and content manager/ Editor. I have time say that content manger/ Editor interest me the most if I had to choose only one. I did hear that QA is an easier way to get into the tech industry so I do want to look into this position as well. I never really looked at content management or editing as part of the tech field. I thought it was more tied to the film and entertainment industry. I am pleasantly surprised that it is part of the tech field. I believe that I am best suited for QA because it is entry level and a way to get into the tech field with ease. I don’t believe I have the confidence to manage or edit any one’s content at the moment.
I found a job posting for QA on LinkedIn with a company called Golden Hippo. The skills I do not have are basic knowledge of Javascript and PHP as well as experience testing eCommerce shopping carts and experience working in JIRA or other defect reporting systems. I can learn more about Javascript and PHP on Plurasight, youtube, and other internet resources. I will also have to learn more about Jira and other defect reporting systems. I am still learning about QA in class so I’m not sure if we well go over defect reporting systems. I am confident in my basic understanding of HTML and CSS. The company was kind enough to encourage applicants to apply even if they do not posses all the required skills. With this encouragement from the company I feel more confident to apply.
Looking more into Content Manager/ Editor I found that I would need to learn a whole lot more. From content shooting, video editing, and Social Media content development. I also found that companies are asking for 2-3years of experience. Some companies are even asking for a bachelor’s degree. This was very discouraging. I think I will make content for myself before I can feel confident to manage or edit content for a company. So will just stick to trying to break into a QA role.
